Compare/Contrast:

Your first step will be to compare themes, ideas, or motifs you’ve seen in the novel to a filmed version of Frankenstein.  Take 1-2 ideas and examine how they are introduced and developed – the version we’ve viewed in class is a fairly close reproduction, but it’s not 100%.  Look for those differences!  What did you see in the novel that isn’t in the film, or vice versa?

The Visual Analysis:

Using this same idea/theme/motif you previously compared, your next step will be to analyze it on its own merits in the film.  Using the lens of your choice (I recommend using the one you researched last week, but you make that call yourself), chart the effects of this theme in the film.

In the end, your final goal is to use these two pieces to make a strong, declarative statement: your thesis.  The film has a message, and so does the novel.  What is this message to you, and how does it alter between media?

The length of this paper, in its finality, will be 3-5 pages.  Your first draft will be due September 26rd (Monday) and will be approximately 2-3 pages.
